I often whinge at those around me about my lack of ideas for games. This is actually silly because my brain is swimming with things I think would be fun or interesting. The issue is one of practicality. Being a student I am not exactly rolling in money so hiring people to do sound and art is not going to work and for some reason all the people I ask to help me out seem to get bored of what is obviously a fantastic idea before we really get anything solid out of it.
When I complain about not having ideas I basically mean I am not having any ideas that I can viably implement given my current situation. I need procedural ideas. Ideas that require a lot of game but little content. I need my Tetris.
My unspoken resolution is that I will actually finish a game this year. I have a pretty simple puzzle game in the works and a fun RTS/TD game in my head that will be released once the puzzle game is done. Both will likely end up on the iPhone because I like working on it but I’ll likely end up doing free web versions too maybe. I haven’t really done any of this marketing crap before…
It’s not like I choose to get bored of a project. It just happens. I’m not even bored of birdcrime I just can’t find myself building the desire to actually work on it. I’m just tired and all or someshit because I know if I started another project it wouldn’t get far. I’m just motivationless… whatevs.
Not sure how well it will run but it might not crash computers anymore. I hope. Hmmm I have added a bunch of stuff I guess enemies come next or maybe scoring and UI I haven’t really decided. I guess getting UI done would be good though. I need more snowflakes. As per usual http://manateegames.co.uk/BirdCrime/
Ok I guess I’m done for today so here is what I guess could be called a nightly build. The aesthetic of the background game is pretty much done as is the level generation stuff and gameplay. You can use the arrow keys now too! I figure I have written it in such a way that if I have any bright ideas for different backgrounds I can implement them then and there so I’m probably going to start working on the foreground gameplay tomorrow. Assuming I do anything tomorrow that is. In any case it is awesome if I do say so myself and it can be found hidden here for the web, here for windows and here for OSX.
I’m too lazy to draw a whole bunch of tiles for birdcrime so I made a procedural texture generator. This game is using loads of stuff I haven’t done before so it’s pretty badass and making me feel awesome for learning all this shit. In any case I rock. The End. Oh it is updated. http://manateegames.co.uk/BirdCrime/
It is called BirdCrime and is inspired by Uberleben and AaaAAaaaaAAAaaaa and Geometry Wars. At the moment it resembles a bad uberleben rip off but hey that is progress and I have alpha based collisons so I might end up writing some crazy procedural texture generation for the tiles of doom. I’m going to perfect the level stuff before I go near enemies so y’know… don’t expect much for now. In any case it can be found here.
I would love my mac to be 3D. I want OSX to be 3D now.
That is of course things other than my idea :<
I had a good game idea and instantly got inundated with uni work. I am a sad panda.
